On Saturday 14 October, GovHack held their annual Red Carpets Awards at the Brisbane City Hall.
South Australian teams featured strongly on the night, receiving an impressive 5 wins, 7 runners-up and 8 honourable mentions. The awards were a celebration of the best of the best from GovHack events held across Australia and New Zealand in 2017.
A big winner was the all-women team, ‘Chooks’ who won the ‘Innovative presentation of economic data’ category as well as runners-up in two other award categories and one honourable mention for their concept Chooks, a tool which provides business intelligence for entrepreneurs.
Mt Gambier team ‘56K’ were recognised with two big wins on the night for their mobile game concept Reefdom, teaching young people the impacts humans have on coral reefs.
Team Hackunamatata won the ‘Resource Hack’ award for their solar power monitoring concept SunSpot and Refugee Connect won the ‘Bounty: Tech / Space’ award for their matching refugees with homeowners who have spare rooms concept Refugee Connect.
