From 2017 South Australia’s annual Open Data competition, Unleashed will be known as GovHack in line with the other states.

The SA Government continues to see the great value of releasing non-sensitive ‘open’ data and its potential to benefit the community.

2017 competition dates

The GovHack Open Data competition was held from 7pm Friday 28 to 5pm Sunday 30 July 2017.

You can continue to access South Australian Government Open Data on the Data.SA website.

How the competition works

Across the weekend, competitors work in teams to explore many hundreds of datasets and develop innovative concepts using them.

These could be in the form of an application (app), a visualisation, a digitised project, a game, or a piece of visual art.

The weekend is great fun as teams re-use open data and create a proof of concept and a three-minute video telling the story of how the datasets might be re-used. Teams must submit their entry by 5pm on the Sunday. A panel of judges decide the winning entries.

What you can win

There are prizes for winning entries in various categories. All South Australian entries will be in the running for state prizes presented at a South Australian awards event. Winners will be in the running for prizes at the National level.
