Open Data delivers transparency, supports collaboration between private and public sector and encourages informed participation in Government by citizens.
Open data is identified as a priority for government in the SA Government’s ICT strategy, together with A Modern Public Service policy and the Digital by Default Declaration.
The Declaration of Open Data commits the SA Government to proactively make non-sensitive public sector data available for use by business and the community.
Data that is released must be:
- available online
- free wherever possible
- published using agreed open standards
- openly licensed for commercial and other re-use.
